DEGGENDORF AT A GLANCE

Nestled at the foot of the Bavarian mountains, Deggendorf is a charming city waiting to be discovered. The town is also located on the left bank of the Danube that happens to be one of the things that locals love the most about Deggendorf. From here, citizens and visitors can head out to some great places for hiking, cycling or long walks in the Bavarian Forest or simply to explore the eastern part of Bavaria. Similar to most of the towns in Germany, Deggendorf also carries the typical historical atmosphere with its fair share of medieval buildings, churches and monasteries. Getting around Deggendorf is quite easy due to the public transport and the short distances. There are four lines servicing the entire city operating on all days except for Sundays and public holidays. A semester ticket for students would cost around 107 EUR. Due to its location, Deggendorf falls into the cool temperate climate zone with cold and dry winters and humid warm summers. Out of the 33,750 inhabitants, around 7,800 are students studying at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. Despite the intercultural flair that the university prompts, many of the local citizens do not speak English fluently, which is why international students must have at least some basic knowledge of the German languages in order to have day to day conversations.
