STUDYING IN GERA

Gera is a beautiful city that attracts many young people from all around the world, thanks to the high quality of education that local universities offer. The Duale Hochschule Gera-Eisenach (DHGE), as the name implies, has campuses in both the city of Gera and Eisenach. It is a private higher education institution that provides students with dual study programs. The university focuses on providing students with a practice-oriented education that will prepare them for their future responsibilities when working for companies and building a successful career life. The higher education institution was founded in 2016 and currently, the university is home to nearly 1,500 students from all around the globe. The university’s campus in Gera offers degree programs in the areas of technology, economics, and social sciences. There are approximately twenty different degree courses students can choose from, including Industrial Engineering, Business Information, Business Administration, Computer Science, IT Management, and many others. Even though the official language of instruction at the higher education institution is German, nearly half of the degree courses offered there are taught entirely in English. After selecting a degree course, student accommodation is another important aspect of student life that needs to be considered prior to students’ arrival. In Gera, students can choose between living in a shared flat with other students where everyone has a separate bedroom and kitchen and bathroom are shared, and finding a one-bedroom apartment/studio just for themselves. Living with other students, however, is always a better option because this is how students can make real friendships and will always have good company. Moreover, it is cheaper to rent just a single room in a shared apartment than a studio or one-bedroom flat. In Gera, students can expect to pay around 290 to 360 EUR per month with all bills included for a single bedroom in a shared flat. The price depends on the size of the flat, its location, and whether or not it is furnished. Studios and one-bedroom apartments cost approximately between 400 and 550 EUR per month.

GERA LIFESTYLE

With its lovely forest surroundings, the Tierpark can be the ideal place to spend a day or at least several hours. Lions and monkeys can be seen there, along with deer, goats, and rabbits. Both children and adults love the place. Another place in the city where people can relax and find peace of mind whenever they need to is the Hofwiesenpark. Students go there to hang out with friends, practice a sport, or just to lie on the green grass, watch the river flow and enjoy a sunny day outside. It is also a great place for picnics. And when the winter comes and parks do not seem so attractive anymore, students can always hide in one of the many cozy cafes in the city center.
