The warmest months are June, July and August and the coldest ones are December, January, and February. The public transport is served by city buses operating throughout all regions of Manno. The city also has good connections to other bigger cities in Switzerland being in close proximity to Lugano, or other cities in Italy, since Manno is also very close to the border of the two countries. STUDYING IN MANNO

Manno is home to one of the campuses of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). The latter is one of the nine professional higher education institutions recognized by the Swiss Confederation and as such is known for its cutting-edge education and training. At SUPSI prospective students can choose from 30 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses that offer a blend of classical theoretical-scientific instruction and a professional orientation. Some of the disciplines that students can choose from in the Manno campus include Business Administration, Leisure Management, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and others. Foreign students coming to Manno for their studies will need to find their own place of living since the university does not offer accommodation in this area. At the university’s official websites prospective students can find additional information about accommodation proposals within the Lugano area for apartments and rooms. In addition, at the campus itself often students post adverts on the notice board in search for flatmates or sub-lets within the area. Alternatively, students can also seek accommodation within Lugano and travel to Manno, as it is only about 20 minutes away with a train.

With only 1,300 citizens, Manno is indeed a small city, yet very charming and perfect for living and studying. Students who want to escape from the busy city life can come here and enjoy the warm weather while living in a relaxed atmosphere that offers the ideal conditions for studying. To cool off from exams and lectures, students can visit one of the local parks known as Ronco Do Park and Giova Park, located in the historic center of the city, and enjoy the warm sunny days admiring the beautiful green landscapes. Both parks offer spacious fields where people often have BBQs, picnics, or practice various outdoor sporting activities. Throughout the year, citizens and visitors can also enjoy various events such as gala concerts, Christmas markets, food festivals, theatrical plays, and musical performances. Attending one of these events is a great opportunity for foreigners to indulge into the local culture and get to know more about Swiss traditions and way of living. And if students ever get enough of Manno they can always travel to the city of Lugano that is located only 20 minutes away with a train. There they can find much more opportunities for socializing, shopping, cultural events, and more.

Students, especially those coming from abroad, might find it difficult at first to adapt to the local living standards, yet once they graduate they will find it much more rewarding to live and work in Switzerland. Working while studying in Switzerland is indeed allowed, however international students are subject to some restrictions such as a limitation of the weekly working hours of no more than 15 hours per week.
