St. Polten, also called Sankt Pölten, is an Austrian city that lies on the Traisen river and is the capital of the Lower Austria state. The total area of the city equals to 108.44 km2 and there are almost 55,000 people living studying or working in St.Polten. The official language spoken in the city is German. The climate in the city of St.Polten can be defined as warm and temperate. Summers are warm and nice, while winters are relatively cold. Located in the heart of Europe, St.Polten is a city that has much to offer, including an excellent level of higher education. The local St. Polten University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1993, is modern, well-equipped and aims to give students a practice-oriented education rather than provide them solely with theoretical knowledge. Currently, the university is home to over 3,000 students from all around the world, including China and Australia. The higher education institution offers a wide spectrum of different degree courses students can choose from, including IT Security, Media Management, Physiotherapy, and many others. Even though German is considered the main language of instruction, most of the degree courses are also taught in English. Choosing a university and a degree course to study is important for every prospective student. However, accommodation is the next thing students need to think about before starting their big adventure. In St. Polten, students can either live in a student dormitory or find a place to live themselves. There are several student halls of residence in the city and they all provide offer different types of rooms and apartments. Depending on the size of the room and whether there is any furniture in it, prices vary between 200 and 300 EUR per month. Student dormitories may be the cheapest type of student accommodation, but the places available there are limited. Although Voith’s headquarter is based in Germany, Voith has a subsidiary in St.Polten that gives many people the opportunity to grow a career. Many engineering students from the university choose to do their internship placement there and spend a semester learning from professionals in the field. While some prefer to stay in the city even after graduation, others decide to relocate to the capital instead. The city of Vienna does provide much more opportunities in terms of career growth.
