Founded in 1971 after the merge of the State Engineering School and two other independent institutes, the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences is nowadays spread across four different locations. The main campus lies here in Wolfenbüttel and has nearly 6,000 students enrolled, and accommodates in addition six of the 12 faculties. The other six departments are spread across Salzgitter, Wolfsburg and Suderburg where more than 7,000 students are taking their degree courses. Having said that, Ostfalia University of Applied Science is one of the largest higher learning institutions in Lower Saxony. A wide range of degree courses both at Bachelor’s and Master’s level are offered in all four campuses. Some of the study fields include Computer Science, Social Work, Media and Design, Engineering, Business and more. Accommodation is one of the main aspects of a student life and is often the most frightening one for students, especially those coming from abroad. However, finding the ideal place to live in should not be a challenge for those coming to Wolfenbüttel. The surrounding region as well as green areas within Wolfenbüttel offer plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, jogging, or simply taking a stroll in the park. The Fümmelsee lake located towards the end of the city is ideal for practicing water sports and swimming. In the summer months, citizens can rent electric bicycles for only 20 EUR per day or 10 EUR for half a day and explore nearly 100 kilometers without recharging the bike. Multiple stations are located around Wolfenbüttel from where bikes can be taken and charged.
