Metallurgy is a subfield of Materials Science and Engineering that deals with the characteristics, properties, structure and behavior of metallic elements, as well as their compounds and mixtures. Metallurgy is an important field of study because metals are at the core of engineering. They are used in a wide variety of fields – electrical engineering as conductors, technology for devices like computers and phones, for railways, cars, bolts, reinforcements and metal fasteners in building, and many more. The most common subjects studied in Metallurgy degree programs include Casting Processes and Casting Alloys, Melt Treatment and Continuous Casting, Advanced Physical Metallurgy, Materials Characterization, Texture Analysis, Fundamentals of and Solving Methods in Metal Forming, Industrial Furnaces and others.
