The Ruhr University Bochum, founded in 1962, is a public university that accomodates more than 41,000 students. It is considered to be one of Germany’s ten largest universities. Organized in 20 faculties, the Ruhr University Bochum offers study opportunities in the fields of humanities and social sciences, engineering, natural sciences, and medicine. Study programs in humanities and social sciences spread across the faculty of protestant theology, the faculty of catholic theology, the faculty of philosophy and educational research, the faculty of history, the faculty of philology, the faculty of law, the faculty of economics, the faculty of social science, the faculty of East Asian studies, the faculty of sport science, and the faculty of psychology. Studies in engineering are offered at the faculty of electrical engineering and information technology, the faculty of mechanical engineering, and the faculty of civil and environmental engineering. Studies in natural sciences can be completed at the faculty of mathematics, the faculty of physics and astronomy, the faculty of geosciences, the faculty of chemistry and biochemistry, and the faculty of biology and biotechnology. Medical studies programs are run via the faculty of medicine, i.e. medical students are distributed over several hospitals in Bochum and the surrounding areas which together form the so-called RUB Clinics.
