The University of Bremen, founded in 1972, is the largest public higher education institution in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. On account of its award-winning concept to shape a sustainable future, “Ambitious and Agile: Institutional Strategy for a prominent mid-sized university“, the University of Bremen is one of eleven elite or excellence universities. In addition, it is a member of the Consortium of Universities in Northern Germany. Round about 19,000 students are enrolled at the University of Bremen, receiving an academic education in 119 study programs at 12 faculties. The University is split up in the Faculty of Physics/Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Biology/Chemistry, the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science, the Faculty of Production Engineering –Mechanical Engineering & Process Engineering, the Faculty of Geosciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Cultural Studies, the Faculty of Languages and Literary Studies, the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Pedagogy and Educational Sciences. The scope of studies offered also includes continuing education programs, namely the three-year Master course “Professional Public Decision Making“, and the certificate course “Application Development for Digital Media“. Depending on the respective study program, students graduate with a B.A., B.Sc., LL.B., M.A., M.Sc., M.Ed., or with the First State Examination in Law.
