The University of Duisburg-Essen, founded in 2003 as a result of the merger between Gerhard Mercator University of Duisburg and Comprehensive University of Essen, is a public university in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the largest universities in Germany. Round about 43,000 students from more than 130 countries currently attend more than 100 Bachelor and Master programs in the fields of humanities, social sciences, educational sciences, business and economics, engineering, natural sciences, and medicine. The University of Duisburg-Essen breaks down into eleven faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Mercator School of Management, the Faculty of Physics, the Faculty of Biology, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Medicine. In addition to regular Bachelor and Master programs, the University of Duisburg-Essen also provides extra-occupational continuing education programs, certificate courses, and day seminars. The following degrees can be obtained: B.A., B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc., M.Ed., and MPP.
