Weiden lies in the northern part of the Upper Palatinate and has become the state’s central location in recent years due to its thriving economy and vibrant lifestyle. The latter experience an average temperature of about 18 °C during the day, whereas in winter the average daily mean tends to drop below 0 °C and reach somewhere between -2 °C and -3 °C in January and February. Traveling to and from Weiden can be done through road and railway connections with intercity buses and trains running on daily basis. The local city transport is serviced by several bus lines running every 15 or 30 minutes from Monday through Friday and with a slightly different schedule on weekends and public holidays.

STUDYING IN WEIDEN

Weiden is known for being home of the University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden (OTH) established in 1994. As suggested by the name, the University has a dual location with a second campus in the city of Amberg. Over 3,000 students can choose the ideal degree course from a wide range of programs in different areas such as Electrical Engineering, Media, Computer Sciences, Business Administration and many others. The faculties located in Weiden are offering six Bachelor and three Master courses in Business Management and Industrial Engineering. The building has changed significantly in recent years growing into an up-to-date campus with modern laboratories, lecture halls and a library so that students can feel comfortable spending time at the university. The student life is a new and important chapter of everyone’s personal experience. Therefore, it is crucial that these years are spent in a comfort and peaceful environment part of which is strongly related to the place where future students will be living in. Weiden offers two student dormitories offering rooms in shared flats. The average monthly price for such accommodation varies between 230 and 248 EUR including all utility bills. Places in student residence halls, however, are limited, hence not everyone might be able to book a room. Alternatively, there are plenty of housing options on Weiden’s private market that are offered on very fair rental rates.
