Living on campus vs living off campus

I am trying to decide whether I should live on campus or rent a room in a shared house. Can anyone tell me what are the pros and cons to both?

I think it really depends on what exactly are you looking for. I have experienced both and in my opinion each should be experienced at a different time in your studies. I think living on campus is better done in your first year when you get to know the university and make new friends. Whereas renting something off campus is better done in the second and thirds year for two reasons: first you might need to work while studying so it will definitely be cheaper, second you will have more exams and more to study so you will need a quiet place with limited distractions. So I guess you should try living on campus for the first year and get the most out of this experience. I hope that helpps ;)

I would say for me definitely living on campus is better… idk I just felt more comfortable there… the fact that you can hang out with your friends almost anytime you want plus the numerous flat parties made my studies much easier as I love losing out the stress.

Living off-campus is not necessarily bad. I have lived both on and off campus and for me personally living away from the campus is better. It offers a real living space, more freedom and privacy and for me it was always cheaper than student accommodations. It is also better for studying because it is much more quieter and with less distractions.

I also prefer living on campus as it is better equipped than an off-campus apartment. I study in Germany and appartments here come unfurnished so you have to buy everything yourself whereas a room in a student hall has everything you need and you just need to buy fewer things like kitchen utensils, towels, bedding, etc.
