BAD HONNEF AT A GLANCE

Bad Honnef is a splendid little spa town located in the picturesque Rhine River valley just outside of Bonn. With a rich historical heritage that dates back over 1000 years ago the city is filled with landmarks with great historical significance. In 1897 the “Dragon Spring”, the first mineral spring was drilled at 249 meters and became popular for its healing properties. It was after this moment that Bad Honnef turned into a spa town and a meeting place for royals who relied on the therapeutic baths. Nowadays, Bad Honnef remains a popular spa and bathing destination attracting thousands of tourists every year with its medicinal mineral springs. Yet, the city has a lot more to offer than its mineral springs, as it also has great cultural and leisure facilities, various shopping opportunities, and of course a splendid surrounding region with beautiful scenery spots. The city has a mild climate that is characterized by warm and humid summers and cold winters. Getting around the city is done with an extensive network of the public bus system allowing locals and visitors to move easily within Bad Honnef as well as from the city to the mountains and valleys. Locals can also use a tram line that runs within and outside of the city. With two train stations, Bad Honnef is easily accessible by regional trains that run to the nearby cities, like Bonn and Koblenz, and to other major cities like Cologne.
