Brandenburg an der Havel is home to two higher education institutions. The older and larger one is the Technical University of Brandenburg (THB), a public university established in 1992 that currently has over 2,500 students. The second higher education institution is the Medical University of Brandenburg Theodor Fontane (MHB), a privately owned university founded in 2014 with some 400 students. The THB carries a good regional and international reputation due to its high-quality teaching and research. Its main focus is on studies in the fields of Computer Science, Media, Technology and Business, offering 11 Bachelor degree courses and 10 Master degree courses across three faculties. As suggested by the name of the university, the MHB focuses on Medicine and Psychology.
