Bremen is located on both sides of the River Weser and has one of the busiest ports in Europe, transporting tons of goods and cars. The weather in Bremen is mostly temperate to warm, however the rainy days can be sometimes predominant. The climate here is mostly influenced by the fact that the city is located on the coast of the North Sea, which sometimes can cause warmer summers and colder winters. Bremen has an efficient and reliable public transportation system that consists of buses and trams that cover the entire city network providing easy access to all points of the city. This place is also very cycle-friendly with established cycle lanes and easy bike hires all over the city. It could be said that Bremen is somewhat diverse in population since over 80,000 people are with foreign citizenship. As a university town many foreign students come to Bremen contributing to the already international society here. STUDYING IN BREMEN

Choosing one of the five universities in Bremen is not going to be the easiest thing as all of them are great. The good thing here is that all of them are focused in different fields and therefore able to propose an array of virtually any possible degree. Apart from the Apollon University of Health Management practicing mostly distance learning, all of the remaining four universities work on the principles of the traditional learning. The Jacobs University is a private one with its own residential campus and of course those who want to study here must pay a tuition fee. All universities assure internationally recognized diplomas with the simple purpose of securing a successful future to graduates. Another commonality of all five higher education institutes is their vision regarding international students. Although not all of them offer courses taught explicitly in English, foreign students are welcomed equally. Knowledge of the German language might be required as majority of the courses are taught in the official language. Living spaces can be found either on the private market or at a student residence hall depending on the preferences of the student. There is a housing organization that can help students find a place in a residence hall, however due to the high number of applicants those spaces tend to be booked quite quickly. Other housing options such as a private apartment or studio or a shared flat are available but everything of course boils down to the financial state of each student. Compared to other major cities in Germany, Bremen is still offering a high living standard but at affordable prices. For those who wish to save even more on accommodation, cheaper options are available in the suburbs and are easy to access due to the excellent public transport. It is recommendable to search for housing options in advance in order to secure a place before the arrival in Bremen.

BREMEN LIFESTYLE

The overall atmosphere in Bremen is quite calm and friendly, allowing students to adapt more easily to the new environment, make new friendships and have fun even during their lecture periods. Bremen has some very beautiful landscapes with its many parks and its location on the bank of the Weser River. There is a path alongside the water where people often go for walks or sit on a bench and admire the view, especially in the evenings. Boat trips and ferry rides are also a common attraction offering locals and visitors to get to know northern Germany even by water. Most of the residents here are mad about their soccer team – SV Werder Bremen –, and it is worth going to watch them whenever they are playing on the Weser Stadium. During summer there are many outdoor activities where students often have fun and ease off the tension from studying. Weather it is one of the summer festivals, a movie at one of the open-air cinemas or a sports events in cycling, swimming and even rowing - entertainment and diversity are always guaranteed. The cultural life in Bremen has another fun side to it, which is probably one of the most interesting parts of being a student, namely its nightlife. The most popular neighborhood in the city where students and locals like to hang out is Das Viertel where many cafes, restaurants and bars allow people to meet up, enjoy each other’s company and have fun. The city is as interesting and lively at night as it is during daytime with its modern clubs and groovy cocktail bars. There are plenty of venues offering different music types for every taste and preference.
