Buxtehude is a small German city that lies on the Este river and is located in the federal state of Lower Saxony. The city has a total area of 77 km2, and there are almost 41,000 people who live, study and work in Buxtehude. The closest airport is the Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport. The local College 21, founded in 2004, is a private higher education institution that provides students with a practical education through innovative and engaging teaching methods. Currently, College 21 is home to over 1,000 students, both domestic and foreign, who have put their trust in the higher education institution and chosen Buxtehude as their academic home. College 21’s specialty are dual bachelor’s degree programs in fields such as Architecture, Engineering, and Science. It offers a variety of dual degree courses, including Physiotherapy, Mechatronics, Building Technology and Automation, Architecture, and many others. Moreover, there is a Master degree program in Leadership and Management Skills that is offered as a part-time course, allowing students to work during the study process. However, the language of instruction at the higher education institution is German, hence prospective students need to provide proof of their level of German knowledge when applying. Walking through the so-called Altstadt of Buxtehude feels like traveling back in time. The Old Town is really historic and beautiful, and every year there is a live music fest that takes places usually at the end of the summer. In the middle of the Old Town, people encounter the famous Fletch, which is the oldest artificial inner-city harbor in Europe. Many boats travel to the city Buxtehude along the Elbe and Este rivers. In fact, the trip on Este starts in the harbor which is only meters away from the city center of Buxtehude in the Old Town. The river runs through the town, and all the houses there are separated from the river banks by small gardens. It looks somewhat unreal. Students living in Buxtehude will love the amazing atmosphere that the city has to offer. When hanging out in the Old Town, people should also visit the famous St. Petri Kirche, which is an impressive and big church that fits perfectly to the overall city architecture.
