STUDYING IN DETMOLD
Despite its size, the city of Detmold provides excellent educational opportunities to students, especially for those interested in music. Founded in 1956, the University of Music Detmold is a small higher education institution with around 600 students. It is a leading music school in the Federal Republic where people from many different countries go to study. The University itself offers a very friendly atmosphere. Untypical for a higher education institution students there have close relationships with their professors and the place feels more like home than a university building. Additionally, there is a big variety of degree courses students can choose from, including “Orchestral Instruments”, “Singing”, “Elementary Music Pedagogy”, “Guitar”, and many more. After deciding what degree course students want to pursue, they have to think about the student accommodation options available in the city. In Detmold, students can choose between living in the student halls of residence, also called student dormitories, and looking for private accommodation in terms of a room to rent in a shared flat. The cheapest option is, however, living in a student hall. The rooms are located very close to the campus. Students may expect to pay between 280 and 360 EUR per month. However, the availability in the student dormitories is limited and runs strictly on a first-come-first-serve basis. Therefore, the earlier one applies, the better. Renting a room or a studio outside of the student halls can be a little more expensive. A single room in a shared flat close to the city center comes at the price of 300 to 380 EUR per month.
DETMOLD LIFESTYLE

There are some places which are very popular among the students living in the town, one of them being the Dreierkrug bar. In fact, this is where the best cocktails in town are made and prices are still affordable for students. Additionally, Detmold can offer some very cute and cozy cafés situated in the city center. Café Schokolade is a very lovely spot in Detmold where one can find great coffee and some amazing sweet delights. Cup Deptmold is another hidden treasure in Detmold. It is the ideal place to go to meet a friend – a unique and friendly atmosphere combined with good coffee and vegetarian food. Lazy Sunday mornings will taste so much different when spent there.
