The city of Erlangen is located in the Middle Franconian region of Bavaria. Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) is the only higher education institute in the city but is also one of the most popular research universities in Bavaria. One of the most popular events in Erlangen is the Bergkirchweih festival taking place every year and lasts for around 12 days. This also happens to be the oldest beer festival attracting millions of people. The event is very important to the locals, who respect deeply their traditions to an extent that some of them even get married in a beer cellar during the festival.
