Esslingen has a favorable location with a good connection to other cities like Stuttgart that can be reached within less than half an hour thanks to the S-Bahn city train service. Traveling to and from the city can be also done by car, intercity buses, and air, with the closest airport being in Stuttgart. The local public transport is serviced by city buses and trolleybuses operating on a regular basis, even at night.

One of the top universities of applied science is established here in Esslingen, providing high-quality education with a strong focus on Engineering, Natural, Economic, Social, Educational and Nursing Sciences. The Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (HS) has also a very well-developed research profile specializing in Digitalization, Energy, Mobility and other areas in which experienced scientists carry out numerous research projects. More than 6,000 students come to HS Esslingen every year where they can choose from 28 Bachelor and 13 Master degree courses covering a wide spectrum of subject areas. The university has eleven faculties spread across three campuses, one of which is located 23 kilometers away in the city of Göppingen. One of the main responsibilities of the university is to prepare all of its students for their professional life through scientifically based and practice-oriented studies. In addition the modern facilities with more than 50 labs, libraries, canteens and green spaces create the perfect environment for students who can feel comfortable and relaxed even while spending time on campus.
