Frankfurt (Oder) is located in the state of Brandenburg on the west side of the Oder River and shares a border with Poland. The city that was once nearly demolished by the end of World War II has come to life again and now offers beautiful landscapes and diverse culture. Once an important medieval trading center, Frankfurt (Oder) is now proud of being equally important European center of research and science. Walking around the quaint streets of the city, one can admire the old buildings that were entirely reconstructed after the war, which is also the reason why that unlike most of the cities in Germany there is no historic downtown here. This part of the country is considered to be the warmest one with nice beautiful summers and mild winters. Public transport here is very well organized with trams and busses circulating regularly and at an affordable price. The city is also well connected to other parts of the country, and since it is sharing a border with Poland, students can also walk across the bridge and visit Slubice.

The European University Viadrina is the only higher education institute in Frankfurt (Oder) and another example of the excellent education system across the country. The university has three faculties and offers a range of degree courses in the fields of Law, Social and Cultural Sciences, Business Administration and Economics.
