Hachenburg is a small but very charming German town that lies on the Nister river and is part of the Rhineland-Palatinate federal state. Situated between Koblenz and Siegen, the city has a total area of only 22 km2 and about 7,000 people who live there. Even though the official language in Hachenburg is German, the young people living in the city can speak English at least on a basic level, too. The climate in the city of Hachenburg can be defined as warm and temperate, with nice summer temperatures around 22 °C and cold winters. The city of Hachenburg, just like every other German city, has an excellent and reliable public transportation network that consists of buses and a railway. While buses connect each and every part of the city with the city center, the railways connect Hachenburg with the rest of Germany. Via train, Hachenburg is directly connected to Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Koblenz, and Wiesbaden. A one-way journey usually costs between five and ten EUR. However, semester ticket holders benefit from being able to travel within the area where their university is located for free. Students in Hachenburg can have exciting weekends spent in different places.

STUDYING IN HACHENBURG
Despite its size, the city of Hachenburg offers a very good level of higher education. The University of Applied Sciences of the Deutsche Bundesbank in Hachenburg is a legally dependent higher education institution of the Deutsche Bundesbank, which is entirely focused on economics and finance. Founded in 1980, the University is situated in the local Hachenburg Castle and accommodates around 400 students. The local university gives students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Central Banking. The degree program takes three academic years to complete during which students can expect to gain useful theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. However, 80 percent of the lectures are held entirely in the German language, while the rest of them are taught in English. Therefore, all applicants are required to provide proof of their level of knowledge in both German and English language. When it comes to student housing, what pretty much every student is looking for is a balance between quality and price. At the city of Hachenburg, all students are provided with student accommodation. However, depending on which academic year one is currently following, the accommodation provided is either directly in the Castle or in the student residence situated within a walking distance from the Castle. The typical monthly price for a room in a student hall of residence is between 200 and 300 EUR per month (all bills included), depending on the type of room. Of course, there is also an option for students to find and rent a room in a shared flat with other students. There, students may expect to pay between 355 and 448 EUR per month depending on whether they go for a single or double room.

Hachenburg is a small town where everybody knows each other. However, that does not mean that it is a boring place to live. The city has its own charm and traditions to keep the good spirit among inhabitants alive. Hachenburg’s most famous tradition is the annual folk festival. The festival usually takes place during the second weekend of August. On Saturday evening, both locals and foreigners living in Hachenburg gather together in the old city market playing music and having fun. As for the winter days, there are plenty of cozy cafés and delicious restaurants in town where students can hide from the cold while enjoying the company of a good friend.

At Hachenburg University of Applied Sciences, students are able to take their first steps toward their professional career. After successfully completing the Bachelor’s degree program in Central Banking, graduates will be able to take on a range of demanding tasks at the Deutsche Bundesbank.
