The beautiful city of Neu-Ulm is situated in the German federal state of Bavaria. With its total area of 81 km2 and nearly 59,000 people who study, work and live there, Neu-Ulm is considered the capital of the federal state. The official language there is German; however, the majority of young people who live in Neu-Ulm do speak English as well, at least at a basic level. The climate in the city is warm and temperate, and from January through February they are between -2 and 3 °C, while in July and August temperatures go up to 23 °C. The city is rather small, everything is located in a walking distance. Even so, transportation in Neu-Ulm is very well-organized, offering efficient and reliable services for getting around in the city. There are several bus lines as well as a railway line. By using the railway, students can go beyond the city limits and explore some amazing places located not far away from Neu-Ulm, including the amazing Stuttgart and Munich. A one-way journey takes about an hour and costs between 10 and 15 EUR depending on the type of transportation one chooses to use. Moreover, semester ticket holders can travel absolutely for free in the area where their university is located.

STUDYING IN NEU-ULM

Whether one is motivated by the seemingly endless opportunities to travel to major European destinations or the excellent higher education the city provides, Neu-Ulm will always be the right choice. Founded in 1994, the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm, also known as Hochschule Neu-Ulm, is a non-profit public higher education institution. Today, the university is home to nearly 4,000 students, of which 10 % are internationals. The University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm offers different degree courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Students can choose between Business Studies, Industrial Engineering, International Enterprise Information Management, and many more courses. The main language of instruction at the university is German but there are numerous degree courses which are taught in English, too. When it comes to student accommodation, students often look for a balance between quality and price. In Neu-Ulm, students can choose between living in a student dormitory and finding a place to live themselves. There are several student halls of residence in the city, and they all provide students with different types of flats and rooms. Depending on the type of room, prices may vary between 200 and 260 EUR per month with all bills included. However, places in the student dormitories are strictly limited, which is why all prospective students need to apply through their university as early as possible. Private accommodation in the city is sometimes more expensive and at the same time more difficult to find. Usually, depending on the exact location of the apartment, a single room in a shared flat comes at the price of 220 to 300 EUR per month, while studios and one-bedroom apartments cost between 400 to 500 EUR monthly.

Although it is relatively small, the city of Neu-Ulm can offer students a vibrant atmosphere and a buzzing nightlife. There are some places which are very popular among the students living in the town, one of them being the Rosebottel bar. The atmosphere there is pleasant, prices are fair, and students love to hang out there. And if one really wants to party, dance like crazy and have fun, Roxy is the place to be. There are also some very cute and cozy cafés in town. Café Alba and Animo! are some lovely spots in Neu-Ulm where one can find great coffee and some amazing sweet delights. Lazy Sunday mornings will taste so much different when spent there.
