Salzburg is a beautiful city in Austria, situated on the bank of Salzach River. In a total area of 65.65km2, there are over 150, 000 people which makes Salzburg the fourth-biggest city in Austria. Nowadays, thirty percent of Salzburg’s inhabitants are foreign people, all coming from different parts of the world but the majority of them are from Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Serbia. The language spoken in the city Austro-Bavarian which is a type of German dialect spoken in this region. However, it is really common for young people in the city of Salzburg to speak English as well. The climate in the city is considered humid continental, or oceanic, with cold winters and hot summers. In July and August, the temperatures can go up to 27-29 °C while in December and January, they are around -2 to 1 °C. Just like in the rest of the country, the public transportation network in the city of Salzburg is excellent. It consists of railway, including high-speed ICE trains and S-Bahn, bus lines, as well as a trolleybus system. The city is very well connected to other major cities both within and outside the country of Austria. There are regular trains and ICE trains that connect Salzburg with Innsbruck, Munich, Vienna and even to some Italian cities. Approximately six kilometers from the main train station of Salzburg is located the Salzburg Airport. It takes only fifteen minutes by bus or ten with the S-Bahn to reach the airport from the city center. There are regular direct flights from the Salzburg Airport to other major cities such as Vienna, Frankfurt am Main and Berlin. Moreover, flights to exotic places like Tel Aviv and Palma de Mallorca are also offered during the whole year so travel aficionados living in Salzburg will not have time to get bored during days off.

STUDYING IN SALZBURG
Besides being a beautiful and charming city, Salzburg is also an ideal place for students because of the excellent level of education it offers. In fact, being home to several universities and colleges, the city of Salzburg is considered the educational center of Austria. The local University of Salzburg is among the biggest and best higher educational institutions in the region. Currently, the university is home to more than 18,000 students and approximately forty percent of them are coming from foreign countries such as India, Germany, and Bulgaria. The higher education institution offers a huge variety of degree courses students can choose from, for example in study areas such as Law, Natural Sciences or Medicine. Even though the majority of the degree courses at the university are taught in German, there are numerous ones which are also offered in English as the main language of instruction. When it comes to student accommodation, what students usually are looking for is a balance between quality and price. Living in a student hall of residence in Salzburg is the cheapest and most convenient option students can go for. There are several student halls in the city, also called student dormitories, and they all provide different type of student flats and rooms. Prices usually are between 280 and 390 EUR per month per person, with all bills included. Students who prefer to live somewhere else can look for a single room in a shared flat to rent or find themselves a studio. Prices, however, are higher and vary between 450 and 600 EUR per month.

The city of Salzburg is among the most beautiful cities in Austria. The old town center, also called Salzburg Altstadt, is full of impressive baroque buildings and therefore it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When spending a whole day in Salzburg, the Oldtown is the perfect place to just enjoy its beautiful sights, have a good coffee, and even do some shopping after that. Another ideal place to spend some time outside in Salzburg is the Mirabell Palace. Built in 1606, the palace has a set of gardens that are beautiful during the whole year, during all fours seasons, and can easily become everyone’s favorite leisure spot in the city. When it comes to nightlife, Salzburg has so much to offer as well. Amazing clubs, live music and basically everything a student would ask for. Among the most famous locations are SodaClub, Mentor’s Bar and The Cube. They are never empty, especially on Friday and Saturday night so reservation might be needed.
