SCHAFFHAUSEN AT A GLANCE
In the northernmost part of Switzerland, surrounded by German land, lies the small city of Schaffhausen with a population of nearly 37,000 people. This small piece of paradise offers its visitors and citizens an amazing nature scenery with forests and vineyards in the surrounding region as well as an impressive historical heritage within the inner parts of the city. The Old Town of Schaffhausen is traffic free and ranks among the most beautiful ones in the country on account of its beautiful medieval buildings with oriel windows and stunning colorful facades. To discover the true charm of the city, one must attend its cultural events or visit some of its most popular landmarks like the Munot fortress, offering a journey through time. The city lies in the temperate climate zone where summers are warm and dry with temperatures rising up to 25 ᵒC and winters are mild with temperatures varying between 0 ᵒC and -3 ᵒC. The Black Forest located within a very close proximity to Schaffhausen blocks the western winds and acts as a rain shadow making this region a bit drier than usual. Local public transport is serviced by buses, including trolleybuses circulating within the city. As the city is almost entirely surrounded by German territory, traveling to German cities is also very easy with the use of the railway services or of course by car or intercity buses.
