Siegen is a small university city located in the southern part of the North Rhine-Westphalia state. Siegen experiences a significant amount of rainfall between the months from November to January. In winter temperatures drop below 0 °C, however it does not feel freezing cold. Summers months and nice and warm with long sunny days where temperatures can reach up to 25 °C on average. The city is relatively small in size, which is one of the reasons why bicycles are a common means of transportation around here. Of course, there is a well-developed public transport network consisting of city buses operating regularly within Siegen. The closest large city in Cologne, located around 75 kilometers away and can be reached by a short train ride.

STUDYING IN SIEGEN

The University of Siegen might be the only higher learning institute in the city but it provides equally high educational standards able to meet most of the students’ expectations. With its modern appearance and international orientation, the university is able to host more than 19,000 students every year. It has furthermore developed a broad range of study programs taught across four faculties and covering the fields of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. As a traditional public German institutes, the university has a well-developed research profile and constantly engages in new research activities and projects on its own and in collaboration with other major research centers.
