SIGMARINGEN AT A GLANCE

In the middle of the beautiful Baden-Wuerttemberg region, a small city with over 1000 years of history lies in the Danube Valley. Sigmaringen is a blooming city with a rich history and diverse cultural life. On top of a green hill sits the magnificent Hohenzollern castle with medieval architecture dating back to the 12th century that was later on slowly turned to a residential castle. With more than 450 rooms and arm galleries, the castle showcases where the imperial family used to live, and visitors coming here get to learn about the family itself as well. Half-timbered houses and an interesting mixture of medieval and baroque buildings stretch along the streets of Sigmaringen. The nature surrounding the city and the beautiful green landscapes around the Danube river make this place a small paradise perfect for living and studying. Summers here are quite warm with temperatures rising up to 22 °C unravelling a beautiful picturesque scenery of trees and flowers blooming all around the city. However, precipitation is quite high in this region all year round, which sometimes causes more than 15 rainy days per month during summertime. Winters here are cold and snowy with temperatures dropping below 0ᵒC and reaching -3 °C. An interesting aspect regarding transportation and the overall infrastructure here is that Sigmaringen was one of the first cities in the country with its own bus system. Nowadays it is still a very successful network providing easy access to all districts of the city. As it is relatively small in size cycling and walking are also often used by locals for getting around. The city is also well connected with other regions, allowing easy travel to place like Stuttgart, which is only an hour and a half away from Sigmaringen.
