STUDYING IN SPITTAL

Established in 1995, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) is a private university with locations in Spittal , Villach , Klagenfurt and Feldkirchen. It offers about 40 Bachelor and Master degree programs, and it currently accommodates over 2,000 students. The university is very application-oriented, and Bachelor degree programs include an obligatory practical semester, which can be carried out in an external company or even abroad. Students can also decide whether to study full-time or part-time. The degree programs are organized according to four categories: Civil Engineering and Architecture, Engineering and IT, Health Sciences and Social Work, and Management. Students can enroll in a Bachelor, Master or further education (or extra-occupational) study program. Courses are taught in German and in English. Carinthia University of Applied Sciences aims to provide the most modern equipment and current topics in Science, so programs are especially designed to meet industry requirements and give students a head start into their careers. What should also be noted about Carinthia University of Applied Sciences is that after completing a two-semester “Study Qualification Course“, students can be accepted without any previous higher education entrance qualifications. Accommodation in Spittal is not very difficult to find. Kolping Students Dormitory is located less than a kilometer away from the campus of Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and offers about 40 single rooms. Monthly rent is around 330 EUR all inclusive. However, most students choose private renting options, which can be found on the Intranet (access only with student status). The university website also publishes offers from private landlords.

SPITTAL LIFESTYLE

Spittal an der Drau is a charming city with a great atmosphere. It may not be the biggest, but it offers its citizens plenty of interesting sights and activities. Some of the best places to visit include Castle Porcia – a Renaissance building, Khevenhüller city palace, Parish church, Castle Rothenthurn, the Museum of Popular Culture, and Erlebniswelt Eisenbahn – Austria's largest private model railway. Regular events are held in Spittal annually. The comedy plays in Castle Porcia, the International choir competition, and the Kleinfeld European Football Cup for hobby teams are just a few examples.
