Stralsund is a small but beautiful German city, located in the southeastern part of the country in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The total area of the city equals 39 km2, and there are approximately 60,000 people living studying or working in Stralsund. German is considered the official language is spoken in the city. The climate in Stralsund can be defined as oceanic. The winters there are relatively cold while summers are hot. During July and August, temperatures go up to 26 °C. From December until February, temperatures are between -2 and 2 °C . Stralsund, just like every other German city, has reliable and safe public transportation network which consists of several bus lines and a railway. Buses do connect every part of the city with the city center, as well as with the main train station. The train is, however, the fastest and most convenient way people can travel in Germany. In fact, the city of Stralsund is directly connected to the amazing Berlin and it only takes about three hours by train to go there from Stralsund main train station. STUDYING IN STRALSUND

The city of Stralsund is a well-known tourist destination but it also is a great place for individuals who want to receive an excellent level of higher education. The Stralsund University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1991 and currently is home to almost 3,000 students from all around the world. The higher education institution aims at providing students not only with theoretical knowledge but first and foremost with a practice-oriented education. The university offers a wide spectrum of degree programs students can choose from, including Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Business Information Systems, and many others. Even though German is considered the official language of instruction, numerous degree courses are also offered in English. After students have chosen a university, a degree course and are enrolled already, they need to start looking for student accommodation right away. In Stralsund, students can either live in a hall of residence, share a flat with other students or get a studio only for themselves. The University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund offers campus accommodation to students, which is is located only several steps away from the university cafeteria. The student residence is completely furnished in a lovely Scandinavian style. A student can expect to pay between 300 and 350 EUR per month for a room there, including all the bills. Unfortunately, places are strictly limited and students who really want to get a room and live in the dormitory, have to apply as early as possible. Of course, there is always a possibility to find a single room to rent from a shared flat somewhere else within the city or even a one-bedroom apartment. Depending on the size of the room or the flat, as well as its location, students usually pay between 250 and 450 EUR per month.

STRALSUND LIFESTYLE

Stralsund is an amazing city that can offer something to almost everyone. The city may not be a cosmopolitan place like Hamburg or Frankfurt am Main, but students will not be bored there at all. Located very close to the biggest island in Germany, Stralsund has a beautiful and one of the oldest harbor in Europe. Just sitting there and enjoying a beautiful sunset brings amazing relaxation. Moreover, one of the most famous harbor pubs in Europe, Zur Fähre, is situated in Stralsund where students love to hang out because of the great atmosphere and of course, the traditional German beer that is offered. Food aficionados will be happy to check out Anja’s Kiosk, situated really close to the Zur Fähre pub. There, the best fish sandwiches in town are made. The maritime museum, also called Meeresmuseum, is another place that must be visited in the city of Stralsund. There are some amazing exhibitions that can be seen, including a fifteen-meter skeleton of a fin whale.
