Summers here are relatively warm with temperatures varying between 19 °C to 25 °C, however rainfall is mostly present during the months of June, July and August. Winters are cold and dry due to the winds blowing from west and south. During those months temperatures usually reach -4 °C. Trossingen’s public transport is serviced by city buses operating frequently and throughout all districts. The city is also very well connected to other regions in Germany, allowing people to explore different parts of the country.

STUDYING IN TROSSINGEN

Trossingen has often been perceived as quite a musical town not only because of the manufacturing of harmonicas but mostly because of the local university. Trossingen University of Music was founded in 1946 and to this day still carries a strong international reputation. Its main purpose is to encourage young adults to express their love for music through various artistic activities and music education experiences. The study programs offered by the university are quite diverse, covering a vast spectrum from all sorts of instruments to breathing and posture techniques and training. Furthermore, at the beginning or at least until the 4th semester, students can choose a particular study profile between Teaching Qualification (Lehrbefähigung), Orchestra / Vocal Ensemble, Podium and Music Theory / Composition. The University of Music Trossingen stands behind internationalization and therefore is working closely with other higher learning institutes worldwide to ensure various exchange opportunities for its students. Foreign students are also welcomed to the university, however there are some particular requirements for them to apply, and a different tuition fee applies as well. International students will need to pay a fee of 1,500 EUR per semester, whereas students who have completed their previous education in Germany will only need to pay 650 EUR per semester. Finding a place to live is also an important aspect of the student life, especially for newcomers. Therefore, the university offers a dormitory located within 20 minutes from the campus with entirely furnished and inexpensive rooms. Alternatively, of course, Trossingen offers a lot of shared flats or studios available on the private housing market.

The surrounding areas, for example, are perfect for hiking, cycling or water sports since in addition to the forest and the mountain range there is also the Gauger Lake located just outside of Trossingen. During the warm summer days, local citizens often go for swimming and sunbathing at the Naturbad Troase, natural pool. Within a very close proximity to the city are located Tuttlingen, Villingen-Schwenningen and Rotweil that are perfect for spending a day or two for shopping or simply exploring each city.
