In the heart of southern Germany, situated right on the Danube River, lies a modern city with amazing medieval architecture. Winters here are with temperatures ranging between 0 °C and -2 °C, whereas summers are warm and sunny with an average temperature of 22 °C. Fog can also occur sometimes since the city is located on the banks of the Danube river. Ulm’s public transportation system is serviced by city buses and a tram line. Night buses also operate during the weekends and on bank holidays. Some districts in the city are restricted and only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed to pass there.

STUDYING IN ULM
Ulm University and the University of Technology are the only two higher learning institutes in the city with nearly 15,000 students enrolled for the past year. Both universities are offering attractive courses with high standards of teaching and innovative research profiles. The Ulm University has four faculties, each specialized in a different area such as Medicine or Natural Sciences, whereas the University of Technology has six faculties where studies are focused on more technology-related fields such as Mechanical and Medical Engineering, Computer Science and others. Each institute is strongly supporting internationality and is therefore not only welcoming students from abroad but also working closely with other universities worldwide. Accommodation is available either on the private housing market or around the student residence halls. In Ulm there are several student residences offering affordable accommodation with all sorts of flats in various facilities. Rooms and flats are usually furnished, with prices ranging between 229 EUR and 562 EUR including bills, depending on the type of the accommodation. Application process for international students is different from that for students already living in Germany; however detailed instructions for both ways can be found on the website of each university. Since the availability is sometimes limited depending on the number of applicants, it is also possible for students to seek housing on the private market in Ulm.

With its location on the Danube river, Ulm offers a variety of leisure activities which combined together with the rich cultural life create the perfect entertainment scene for people of all ages and especially students. Students can find different ways to unwind when they want to have a break from all the lectures and exams. Practicing sports is probably the most popular among young adults as there many facilities and outdoor areas where they can try rock climbing, hiking, jogging and a range of water sports. The many festivals like the Danube or French Wine ones are perfect for those who wish to get to know the local culture closely. Both universities also offer a lot of activities for those who feel creative and would like to express that through musical and artistic activities organized by the artistic centers located in each campus. Night entertainment is also available in the numerous bars and clubs downtown hosting live music performances and student parties regularly. Popular open-air events are also held during warmer months in the various parks around Ulm. Those who prefer traveling can easily explore the country since the city is very well connected with major cities like Stuttgart and Munich. Students who have more time on their hands can also explore the Alps or the Lake Constance located a bit further away from Ulm but still easy to be reached by train, car or bus.
