Vallendar is a small German city in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, located directly on the right bank of the Rhine River. Its total area equals to 13.22 km2 and there are almost 9,000 people living, studying and working in the city. German is considered the official language spoken in the city of Vallendar. The climate in the city can be defined as warm and temperate. Winters are considered cold while summers are warm and nice. During July and August temperatures go up to 23-24 °C. From December through February, it is approximately 1 to -3 °C. Even though Vallendar is quite a small town, it does have a reliable public transportation network that consists of buses and a railway. Buses run within the city and also connect Vallendar with Koblenz and several neighboring cities. Train, however, is the fastest and most convenient way to travel in Germany. The city of Vallendar is located less than two hours away from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt am Main by train. This can be a great opportunity for students living in Vallendar to spend an exciting weekend in beautiful Dusseldorf or cosmopolitan Frankfurt.

STUDYING IN VALLENDAR

Despite its size, the city of Vallendar can offer excellent educational opportunities to individuals interested in business. For one of the best business schools in Europe is actually located in Vallendar. Founded in 1984, the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management is a private higher education institution that is currently home to almost 1,500 students from all around the world, and has a big list with partner universities. Every year hundreds of exchange students from China, Australia, and even the United States spend a semester studying abroad Vallendar. The university is considered small but that allows students to have a closer relationship with all of their professors. Moreover, the university offers a wide spectrum of business-related degree courses students can choose from, including Finance, Entrepreneurship, Management, Accounting. Bachelor’s courses are taught in both German and English, while Master’s courses are only offered in English as a main language of instruction. When it comes to student accommodation, students try to find a place that is relatively cheap but comfortable and nice at the same time. However, finding a balance between price and quality might not be very easy. In Vallendar, students can live in studios, one-bedroom apartments or in bigger flats with other people to share it with. The university does provide prospective students with help in finding accommodation prior to arrival. However, those interested need to apply first and the sooner they do, the better. Depending on the type of apartment, prices are between 425 and 600 EUR per month with all the bills included.

Vallendar can offer excellent higher education to all students but that is not everything. Student life is not only about hard work and no fun at all. In fact, Vallendar will be a great choice for study destination to all the outdoor enthusiasts. There are more than fifty different hiking trails around the city of Vallendar that can be explored. When local students want to have fun and attend a good party, most of the time they go to Koblenz which is just four kilometers away from Vallendar. There, students can enjoy a variety of different night clubs and cocktail bars and spend an amazing night out with friends. The local Irish Pub is also very popular among students, and so is the Circus Maximus dance club – both are located in the city center of Koblenz.
