This little paradise features a traditional architecture of half-timbered houses, medieval castles and winding streets that together create a rather romantic rural atmosphere. Numerous green parks and the spending Botanical Garden are also worth visiting preferred places for relaxation by locals. One of the most iconic landmarks of the city is undoubtedly the majestic castle with its Neo-Gothic style and towers rising above the old town center. In addition, Wernigerode is home to the youngest University of Applied Sciences in the state, which is the reason why so many young people are coming every year to the city. The climate here is rather temperate with an average annual temperature of around 10 °C. Summers here are warm and somewhat wet with temperatures varying between 19 °C to 25 °C. Winters are also mild, with January being the coldest month when temperatures reach -2 °C. The city’s public transport consists of five bus lines circulating frequently to all points of the city. Traveling to and from the city is also fast and easy due to the good infrastructure with a railway line and a highway. This allows students and visitors to explore the surrounding region and travel to bigger cities like Hannover and Leipzig within less than three hours.
