Situated on the border of Burgenland with nearly 46,000 inhabitants, Wiener Neustadt is the second-largest city in Lower Austria. Winters, on the other hand, are quite cold even though there are almost never large amounts of snowfall, and temperatures often drop below 0 °C, reaching as low as -5 °C. Wiener Neustadt seems to play a key role in the Austrian railway junction as it is the starting point of several railway routes. The local train station is also the busiest one in Lower Austria with around 700 trains departing and arriving per day. Student can benefit from the numerous direct trains reaching bigger cities like Vienna, Graz and Klagenfurt. Public transport within the city is serviced by city buses circulating within the whole city.

STUDYING IN WIENER NEUSTADT
Founded in 1994, the University of Applied Sciences was the first of its kind in Austria. Nowadays, the university has its main campus here and three smaller ones in Wieselburg, Tulln and Vienna. Currently some 3,800 students are enrolled, with the highest number in Wiener Neustadt. In addition, the university has five faculties offering a total of 37 Bachelor and Master degree courses in German or English language depending on the program. The main areas of teaching are Business, Engineering, Health, Security and Sport, and come along with a unique combination of theory and practice. All campuses are designed to create a modern study environment and motivate students to learn and prepare for their professional career. Students can benefit from numerous research labs equipped with the latest technology guaranteeing first-class education. With the number of students increasing every year, rooms and studios within the student residence halls might be insufficient. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that applicants start looking for accommodation as early as possible if they prefer to live in a dormitory along with fellow students. The University of Applied Science Wiener-Neustadt has two student residence halls within a walking distance from the campus. Over there students will have the opportunity to rent a single room in two-, three- or four-bedroom apartment with shared kitchen and bathroom. Rooms come entirely furnished with a TV connection in each room, and the monthly rent also includes the utility bills. Private housing options are also available to those who do not manage to secure a spot in a student residence hall.
