STUDYING IN WUSTERMARK

Wustermark is home to the Theological College Elstal, a state-accredited church university. The latter was first established as a Theological Seminary that later on, in 2007, received institutional accreditation as a university of applied sciences. Now, the university has nearly 70 students taking part in a total of three accredited study programs: a six-semester Bachelor course in Protestant Theology, a four-semester Master course in Protestant Theology, and a four-semester Master course in Free Church Diaconia. The small amount of student allows a higher ratio of teachers, which ensures a rather personal approach that each individual can benefit from. Students coming to Wustermark for the first time will need to find a comfortable place to live in during their student life. The university offers accommodation, and in order to get a room there, students must fill in an online application form and submit it prior to their arrival. Students will get to live in either two or five bedroom shared flats with other young adults. Upon filling in the application form one can specify the type of the apartment and the size of the room that is best suitable for them. However, in some cases those requirements might not be fulfilled due to the high volume of requests and the limited housing availability. The monthly rent for the rooms on campus varies between 200 and 250 EUR including utility bills. Alternatively, students can also search for shared flats on the private housing market in Wustermark.

Life in Wustermark is very peaceful due to the pleasant location of the city, which is dominated by meadows and green landscapes, occasionally interrupted by wooded areas. The close proximity to larger cities like Berlin gives local citizens the sense of a metropolis, in case they ever want to diversify their everyday lives. The Havel Canal passing through the city offers further recreation opportunities such as boat trips, cycling paths or mere strolls along the water while admiring the charming landscapes. Students who wish to stay active during their studies can join some of the sports clubs in Wustermark, or exercise outdoors when the weather is nice and sunny. The surrounding regions offer some great possibilities for excursions, hiking, climbing or mountain biking – perfect for all nature lovers.
