Zwickau is a charming German town located in the federal state of Saxony in Central Germany. The climate in Zwickau can be mostly defined as warm and temperate. The winters in the city are relatively cold, while the summers are nice and very warm. During July and August, temperatures go up to 21-22 °C. From December through February, temperatures are usually between -1 and 3 °C. Just like every other German city, Zwickau also has a very reliable and convenient public transportation network which consists of several bus lines, a tramway, and a railway. Buses connect every part of the city with the city center as well as with the main train station. However, in Zwickau, the majority of people prefer to use the trams because journeys take less time. Moreover, the city of Zwickau has a great location, ideal for those people who would love to travel by train. Leipzig and Dresden are both located only hour and a half away from Zwickau and can be a great destination for a weekend getaway. Also, Zwickau is situated close to the Czech border and there are many interesting places to be seen around. The impressive Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic is situated in less than four hours away, and it will cost twenty EUR approximately to be visited by train. This is an amazingly beautiful and colorful spa town with a very relaxing atmosphere. The Czech capital, Prague, is also not very far away and worth visiting, too.

STUDYING IN ZWICKAU

Besides all the opportunities to visit other countries easily from there, the city of Zwickau can also offer young people an excellent level of higher education. Founded in 1897, the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, also known is Germany as Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau, is currently home to almost 5,000 students coming from more than forty countries. In fact, approximately fifteen percent of all enrolled students at the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau are foreigners, both full-time and exchange students. The higher education institution aims at providing students with more practical education rather than simply theoretical knowledge.
