Living with other people

Published by:  RalitsaS

I recently moved to Bamberg for my Bachelors studies and I am currently living with three other students. The problem is that they are really loud during the night whereas I like to go to bed early and need silence to sleep. I am too shy to face them and tell them to keep it down. How should I approach the situation? Any thoughts?

I had a similar issue with my flatmates in the first year of my studies and I am a person who does not like to get into conflicts with others too. One day they were all in the kitchen and I just started a friendly conversation and told them that the noise is bothering me sometimes. They were very understanding and handled the issue immediately and I never had any problems again.

I think you should just go an talk to them if it doesn’t work out just go and speak to whoever is in charge. After all you are also paying for this room so you get equal rights…

I worked as a receptionist/security at a student accommodation and there were a lot of disputes about noise. I would say before you do anything make sure that your complaint is really legit. This is a student hall and noise is kinda normal giving all the parties often happening. If you have thin walls and someone is playing music in their room well sorry but this is not really an issue but if its anything past 11pm-ish then it makes sense. Try to chat with them first and if it doesn’t work then proceed with the supervisor/manager whoever is in charge.
