Working in Berlin

Published by:  ClaraS

Hey there! I arrived to Berlin a month ago and I was thinking about finding a part-time job while studying. Could you please help me with some information on the job application process and the legal requirements if there are any? Also it would be great if you can help me out with links to where I can find a decent job. Thank you in advance

The job application process is pretty much the same as anywhere else, you just need to prepare a CV. For the papers it depends on where you are coming from. Are you an international student?

No, Im Lithuania.

So you are entitled to the same things as german students. You can work up to 20h per week during the semester and you dont need any work permit.

That’s great! How much can I earn because 20h seems too little to me.

I used to work in the first year of my studies as a waiter and made around 450€ per month + tips. I found my job through a friend but you can try different things like websites, your uni must have a job center so you can get in tuch with them, check the papers, ask friends.

I agree with VickyN, you don’t need a permit but you still need to have some other documents. I will list them below: tax ID which is called /Steueridentifikationsnummer / health insurance social security number /Sozialversicherungsnummer/ bank account here in Germany red card /Rote Karte/ if you wanna work in hospitality By the way here on universitaet.com there is a Career section where you can look for jobs. Hope that helps ;)
