Let’s talk about books. What are you reading?

Hello, everyone! Since lockdown has started, I’ve been reading more than usual. It’s a great way to pass some time and relax. I thought we can share our favorite books here and discuss them. I can start with the last one I’ve read – “Everything I Know About Love” by Dolly Alderton. It’s a non-fiction memoir type of book that collects stories from the author’s teenage years until her 30th birthday. I found it easy to read and it made me laugh and cry at the same time. I’ve already recommended it to a few friends, because it’s a great book. It’s not for everyone, though. In my opinion, it’s more of a chick-flick, so the male audience might not enjoy it. What are your favorite books or what’s the last one you read? Would you recommend it?

Funnily enough, the last book I read was “Pride and Prejudice”. I know it’s a classic and all, but I had just been putting it off for so long. And now in lockdown, since there’s a lot of free time, I decided I can finally read it. And let me say, I understand why it’s so popular! I don’t usually like period dramas, because they seem irrelevant and pretentious, but Jane Austen really has a way of getting through to the reader by presenting universal problems in a slightly humorous typically British way. I thought I knew the story well, because I had watched the movie with Keira Knightley, but the book still surprised me. If you, like me a month ago, have never read it, but have always been planning to, now’s the time!!

Well my favorite book, or series of books, is Lord of the Rings. I know it’s not for everyone, because I’ve heard a lot of opinions that they are “too slow” or “too descriptive”, but I think that’s part of their charm. The way you completely immense yourself in that fantasy world when you’re reading them is absolutely unmatched, so if you haven’t read them, I strongly recommend them. You do have to be a fan of fantasy novels though.

The last book I read was “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” which is a prequel to “The Hunger Games”. I was super excited to read it as I was obsessed with THG a few years ago, but I was a bit disappointed. It is nowhere near as interesting and intense as the original series. However, it is still a decent read especially in lockdown, so if you’re bored, I think you’ll like it.
