My washing machine broke down. Do I fix it myself or call my landlord?

Published by:  SamT

I have a problem – I live in a rented flat with 2 other friends, but last week our washing machine stopped working. My friends said it’s my fault because I used it last, but now I don’t know what to do. Should I call my landlord to fix it or try to fix it myself? Or can I call a repairman instead of my landlord?? Did anyone have this problem before and how did you fix it?

Hi, Sam! I had a similar problem last year. My microwave stopped working and since I was the only one using it, I had to deal with it. I called my landlord, because I wasn’t sure whether the microwave had a warranty or not, and thank god I did!! Turns out it was 3 months old and the landlord just exchanged it for a working one at the shop. I didn’t have to pay anything, so you shouldn’t worry about that. That’s what I can advise you – call your landlord and tell him what happened. If your washing machine still has a warranty, it will probably be no problem to ge t it fixed. Good luck!

It depends if ur landlord gets mad easy or not lol I broke the microwave last month and mine made a big scandal and made me pay for it haha

I agree with Mario. If anything breaks or goes wrong in your apartment, the landlord should know. What happens after that is up to him.

if you think u can repair it urself, why not?? i say try it and if you cant, then call your landlord and tell him. but u can save money and an argument so try first.

Definitely call your landlord!!!! If you don’t you can get in a lot of trouble. Didn’t you sign a contract when you moved in? It probably says there that if you damage something and it is your fault, you will have to pay for it. But if you try to fix it yourself, you can damage it even more or break something else. So just tell your landlord and you will solve your problem.
