Moview review: Mulan

I went to see Mulan yesterday and OMG… Being such a huge fan of the animated version I was so thrilled to watch its live action remake. The acting of Liu Yifei was amazing and I think she is just the right fit for the part. What do you guys think? Did you missed the talking animals and the typical love story scenario?

I loved everything about the movie. I am also a big fan of this particular Disney story and I was so anxious to see the remake. I think Liu made a trufly powerful performance making Mulan’s character a true role model for young girls. I don’t really think that Mushu and Cri-kee would have been appropriate here so I didn’t really missed them.

Overall a good movie. I also think that if they did it absolutely the same as the original it wouldn’t have made much sense. This take on the story is much more violent with more battles and aiming to show Mulan as a strong warrior and such elements like talking animals, funny grandmas or even a love-story ending would have been an awkward fit to be honest.

My daughter was beginning me to go an see it but I read somewhere that the movie is not really appropriate for kids under the age of 12. Is it really that scary and violent?

Well, it really has much more vivid fighting scenes than the original, not so much blood is used but still I also think it might be a bit disturbing at times. It is a mature overview of the original story suggesting that girls… and basically everyone should believe in themselves and stand up for that despite their ups and downs.
