The Academy of Media Arts Cologne, founded in 1989, is a public art school seated in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia. It prepares nearly 330 students for a professional career in art and design. The scope of studies includes the uniform study program “Media Arts“, which is offered both as a nine-semester undergraduate Diploma degree course and as a four-semester postgraduate Diploma degree course. The study program covers the areas of Film, Art, and Science. Emphasis is placed on the following subjects: Animation, Image Design/Camera, Documentary, Storytelling and Writing, Photography, Installation, Live TV, Material/Sculpture/Code, Multimedia Design, Performance, Sound, Movie Direction, Video/Motion Picture, and Drawing/Painting. Being a higher education institution that has the right to grant doctoral degrees, the Academy of Media Arts Cologne also provides a doctroal degree program in the field of Art and Media Studies. The scope of doctoral subjects includes Experimental Informatics, Film Studies, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Design Science, and Art Studies. All applicants are required to undergo an admission procedure.
