With a duration of six semesters, in a part-time form, and equivalent to 180 credit points, the Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin offers the degree course “Bachelor of Science in Advanced Clinical Nursing: Intensive Cardiovascular Care”. It is a further education course, targeted at the professionals already practicing in nursing care who wish to add knowledge, or innovative approaches to their theoretical competence, or who need to update their performance in terms of current evidence-based, specialized skills. The critically ill cardiovascular patients, most often on respiratory treatment, pose challenges to the complex task and responsibility of nurses. By having acquired specific knowledge in the field, better interpretation and judgment of medical procedures will be possible. Besides strictly technical and specific knowledge, psychology and communicative skills will be enhanced, and graduates can expect to be operative in positions requiring managerial competence, as well, since it will also be tackled within the course.
