For a period of eight part-time block courses at the Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin, the degree program “Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management: Disaster Management” can be studied. The degree is suitable as a continuation of the specialization courses of the practicing professionals in the fire-brigades, the army, emergency units, insurance and health care, civil protection, rescue services, hazard preventive and relief services, even in counter-terrorism, in particular those in management responsible positions. In an interdisciplinary, broad-based, evidence-focused methodology of teaching and learning, students will be introduced to the vast array of competences necessary for having a holistic approach and performing in complex settings. The subjects tackled in the course are psychology, sociology, risk and crisis communication, leadership and HR management, crowd management, planning and security, business studies and law in security, overall, all that comes handy when having to decide, think on your feet, and act with integrity in situations of extreme mental and physical pressure.
