Within a study period of eight part-time block courses, the degree course “Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management: Emergency Services and Disaster Management” can be done at the Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin. The degree encompasses a very wide range of topics for a holistic approach and thorough preparation of those already in service in emergency units, the army, fire brigades, counter terrorism, crisis prevention and relief, but, above all, the professionals in the paramedical services. Those of them who would like to add management skills, scientific knowledge, and applicable competence to their particular professionals area, and be prepared to address complex issues in an interdisciplinary, informed, and organized way, are the future students in the degree course. Specific subjects concerning the area of “Emergency Services and Disaster Management” are: medical emergencies, action competences, diagnostics and medicine, communication, professional policy and operational management in civil protection, deployment management in national and international security systems, management of damage, preventive and reactive disaster management.
