Four semesters are needed for the part-time program “Master of Arts in Pedagogy and Adult Education in Health Care” at the Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin. It is a degree course designed with the practicing professionals in mind, particularly those operating in the field of health promotion and education in companies, consulting and coaching or health schools. The studies will be a practical way of increasing one’s competence at the managerial level in education, or gaining a grasp on the specific matter needed to be acquired at health institutions. Besides, latest legal reforms pose a requirement for teachers at health schools to have a master’s degree, so the program responds to it in a timely way. There is also a growing need for professionals to train adults, especially in the health sector, since lifelong learning is spreading. Three areas of specialization are given, each with its specific knowledge in terms of age and settings: vocational training, adult education or in-company further and advanced training, or advice and coaching.
