Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, founded in 1971, is a private university seated in Alfter, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is sponsored by the Alanus Hochschule gGmbH. The University received state recognition in 2002. Round about 1,500 students are enrolled there in full-time and part-time study programs, spread across the two locations of Alfter, and Mannheim. The scope of studies comprises 15 Bachelor and 16 Master degree courses. The university breaks down into two faculties: the Faculty of Arts and Architecture (Architecture, Visual Arts, Drama, Eurythmy), and the Faculty of Human Sciences and Social Sciences (Art Therapies, Education, Business Management, Philosophy and Aesthetics).
