The Berlin University of the Arts, founded in 1696, is a public art school with around 3,500 students. It is the biggest university of its kind throughout Europe. The Art School offers Bachelor and Master programs in the fields of fine arts, design (e.g., “Fashion Design“, “Product Design“, “Architecture“), music (e. g., “Conducting“, “Composition“, “Music Education“), and performing arts (“Voice/Opera“, “Dance and Choreography“, “Acting“). Upon successful completion of a study program, students are respectively awarded with B.A. and M.A. degrees. Also included in the range of studies offered are teaching-oriented programs, doctoral programs, as well as continuing education programs. The latter programs, including such courses as “Cultural Journalism“, “Sound Studies and Sonic Arts“, “Leadership in Digital Communication“ and “Music Therapy“, are carried out at the specially established UdK Barlin Career College. Applicants are obligated to undergo an artistic admission procedure, which varies depending on the respective study program.
