The Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane, founded as recently as 2014, is a state-recognized private university with the right to confer doctoral degrees. It has locations in Brandenburg an der Havel, and Neuruppin. The School is sponsored by the Medizinische Hochschule Campus gGmbH. Round about 80 students are enrolled in study programs in Medicine, Psychology and Clinical Psychology, and Psychotherapy. While the program in Medicine leads to a state examination, the programs in Psychology and Clinical Psychology, and Psychotherapy lead to a B.Sc. and M.Sc., respectively. Psychology-related studies are primarily carried out at the Neuruppin location. Medical studies, as far as the theoretical part is concerned, are taught at both locations. Thus preclinical basic subjects (e.g., physiology, biochemistry, anatomy) are primarily taught at the Neuruppin campus, whereas clinical subjects (e.g., surgery, internal medicine) are carried out at the Brandenburg an der Havel campus. The prerequisites for applicants to be granted admission to study include university entrance qualification as well as the successful completion of a two-step selection procedure which consists of a review of application files and a personal interview. The selection largely depends on person-related criteria such as motivation, personality, and practical experience, and less on the average grade.
