The Braunschweig University of Art, founded in 1963, is a public art university seated in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony. It is entitled to confer doctoral and postdoctoral degrees. Prospective students can choose between the following degree courses: “Fine Art“ (Diploma, Meisterschüler), “ART.Education“ (B.Ed./M.Ed.), “Performing Arts“ (B.Ed./M.Ed.), “Visual Communications“ (B.A.), “Design and Digital Cultures“ (B.A.), “Transformation Design“ (M.A.), “Art History and Aesthetics“ (B.A./M.A.), and “Media Studies“ (B.A./M.A.). Expiring study programs are “Mediation of Art“ (B.A.), “Communication Design“ (B.A.), “Industrial Design“ (B.A.), “Communication Arts“ (M.A.), and “Industrial Theater/Transportation Design“ (M.A.). Applicants for the degree courses “Fine Art“, “Performing Arts“, “ART.Education“, “Visual Communication“, and “Design and Digital Cultures“ are required to undergo a two-step artistic admission procedure, consisting of a review of the portfolio of artwork submitted, and an artistic admission exmination or an admission interview. Under certain conditions, it is also possible to study at the Braunschweig University of Art without a higher education entrance qualification.
