Offered by the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music Dresden the degree program “Bachelor of Music in JRP: Saxophone” is with a total length of eight semesters. It is supplemented by study of jazz vocabulary and repertoire on the basis of promoting individually the musical ideas and strengths and imparts basic knowledge of classical saxophone playing. During their study, participants develop and deepen specific jazz aspects such as phrasing, articulation and timing while focusing on improvising the functionally harmonious and modal compositions in different styles, improvising over different time signatures and play in different tempo levels. Students explore the creation and analysis of transcriptions and are able to develop their own vocabulary and sound while the course also provides the opportunity to take on extended courses.
