The eight-semester degree program “Bachelor of Music in Music Theory’ is provided by the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music Dresden. In addition to music theory lessons the program provides one-to-one composition lessons which can be supplemented in the course with jazz / rock / pop composition and lessons in the studio for electronic music.  Students acquire a basic knowledge of essential compositional techniques of different epochs, understand the musical-theoretical basics of the basso continuo and modulation and can demonstrate this on the piano while exploring essential approaches to music theory, grasp and present more complicated musical approaches according to the criteria of historical and systematic music theory. The course deepens the skills acquired in the previous modules and aims to develop largely independent work on fundamental music-theoretical content and imparts broad and stylistically diverse music-theoretical knowledge and skills.
